Singing along in English, with the lyrics in front of you, is a very good way of improving your listening and your pronunciation.

1.) HOW IT WORKS
For this you take a well-known song that everybody has heard at least some times. I get the lyrics of the song (check it is the same as the one you are going to play! Lyrics should match with your song) and whiten out one word in each line. Then I play the song, strophe by strophe, and the students should fill in the blanks. After each few lines we work it out together. And that's how we work through the song. Once everybody has all the words - I show them with the projector so they cannot make mistakes in the writing and it is easy for the singing too - we sing the song one or several times. It doesn't take a lot of time, it is a nice break for the students and we have a lot of fun. Also, when we sing, I mime the words so they will remember them even better.

You can blank out the words you want. You can take out all the articles or all the verbs, or maybe all the prepositions or just the words you want. Whatever you do, I am sure that whenever your students will hear this song again, they will remember the words you taught them.

When you sing along, you try to produce the same sound you heard, so this is why it is so good for pronunciation.

2.) WHICH SONGS

You can take any song as long as it is clearly pronounced. Personally I prefer songs from the 70's as they often have nice rhythm, sound and are easy to understand without being too simple. Very popular are Celine Dion, Elton John and such. But I suppose you can take any song as long as the text is understandable and not too complicated and people can follow the tune.
I try to sing loud so that the students can hear my pronunciation too and see my mouth move and on top of it they will realize that the idea is not to be the next PopIdol but to have fun and learn. Sing along and improve your English (FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS) 607_FORUM_LYRICS-note

3.) EXAMPLE
I will give you an example:

Stand by me – Temptations

(well known even now as it was redone not that long ago)

When the .............. has come
And the land is ..............
And .............. .............. is the only light we see
No I .............. be afraid
No I won't be ..............
Just .............. .............. as you stand, stand by me

And darling, darling .............. .............. ..............
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look ..............
Should .............. and fall
And the mountain should .............. to the sea
I won't .............. , I won't ..............
No I won't shed .............. ..............
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And .............. , .............. stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

.............. you're in trouble won't you stand by me
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Oh, stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darling, darling .............. .............. ..............
Stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me
