Language Learning strategies Empty Re: Language Learning strategies

Hello Wonderland,

Here what I could find for you, hope it will help you.

1) Group work also known as Cooperative learning. In the last decade there has been a growing interest among ESL/EFL teacher in using cooperative learning activities. With cooperative learning, students work together in groups whose usual size is 2 to 4 members. However, cooperative learning is more than just putting students in groups and giving them something to do. Cooperative learning principles and techniques are tools which teachers use to encourage mutual helpfulness in groups and the active participation of all members (Jacobs & Hall 2002:52)

Carry on reading page from 56, chapter 5 from Methodology in Language Teaching: you can find the book here. You'll also find features of group work.... and even what to do when students refuse to work in groups (Psychological needs)... etc

2) Types of group work: Click here

3) Language Learning Strategies. There is a plenty of work done on Learning strategies. Scholars specialized in this field are: Rebacca L. Oxford, Douglas Brown, Wenden and Rubin, O'Malley and Chamot, Cohen, among others.
If I give you a lot of documents they'll just confuse you.... cos there has been a lot of published work on these strategies.
What I suggest is to know the following things and if you need to do extra research you can always search in some good sites like (Eric (type Eric in google it will direct you to the site), Eric Digest, Google Scholar, Google Books...) or search for works done by people I mentioned above.

Some useful documents:
Rebecca Oxford is a renown figure in that field that's why I selected these sites for you:
1) Language Learning Strategies: An Update
2) Click here. I got this from google books there are some parts which are omitted if you want the full article, just see page 124, chapter 11 from the book I gave you above : you can find the book here

1) What is a strategy: (as defined by Rebecca oxford in her book Language Learning Strategies: What every Teacher Should Know (1999) According to Oxford, the basic term strategy comes from the Greek term "strategia", which means generalship or act of war. More specifically, strategy involves the optimal management of troops, ships, or aircraft in a war situation. Strategies like tactics are tools or techniques to achieve success. In non-military sittings, the word strategy has come to mean a plan, step, or conscious action towards the achievement of an objective.

2) Classifications of Learning Strategies: LLS (Language Learning Strategies have been classified by many scholars (Wenden and Rubin 1987; O'Malley et al. 1985; Oxford 1990; Stern 1992; Ellis 1994, etc.). However, most of these attempts to classify language learning strategies reflect more or less the same categorizations of language learning strategies without any radical changes. Click here to see classifications and O'Malley classification

3) Language Learning Strategies Instruction or Training: Click here
