Someday, a friend sent me sms, and she asked me this question:

well i'am not sure of the answer but they say that the first who covered the kaaba was ISMAIL peace upon him .after him the king of hamir .Than it became a habit in koraych (jahilia)they covered it again in 3abasi age by al khalifa maamoune.that's what i know.

Okay i'll take my shot wolf..not for the symbolic gift of yours of course.
I think the first one to cover "Al Kaaba" was the mother of our prophet peace and blessings be upon him.Aminah bint Wahb, for some stories told that the prophet was once lost.So she swore that if he's found safe, she'd cover "Al Kaaba" with gold and silk.
That's what i know anyway.

The first one who covered Kaaba was "أسعد أبو كرب الحميري" King of Yemen . He did this honor and greatness to the Kaaba after his intention to demolish it.
عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال :" لا تسبوا أسعد الحميري فإنه أول "من كسا الكعبة

It is said that The king of Yemen, Asaad Al hamiri , wanted once to demolish Kaaba but two Jewish men from “Bani Koraida” told him to do not, because if he would do this he would be punished. The king asked them why this. They told him that a man, who would be the last prophet, would come from Koraish and this House would be his. The king abandoned his idea to demolish Kaaba. He went to it and worshipped there as its people used to do. One night he dreamt that he was covering Kaaba , for that he covered Kaaba and made a door and a key for this House.

I think the one who cover it in black was called " Annacer al3abasi" , it was coverd with any color before and after Islam till his age, and it is said that they change the color to black bcoz of the new loyal system.

It started cover by black since that time Angeleyes. And the black because it was colour of wars and power for Arabs.
