What is style?
I've always stumbled on the word "STYLE" and didn't get it right, and right now, while surfing on the net, I've stumbled on a very interesting article, so I can't help but sharing it:

Re: What is style?
I wonder if style is that abstract? I mean don't you think that we can give it a more concrete definition? Anyway thanks a lot

Re: What is style?
You're most welcome. For your question Chichidodo, I think Style is both concrete and abstract. I mean it is all what those writers and thinkers said it is, but that's its essence! It has something else that I would name it's existence and that's the apparent, concrete aspect of style. The existence of Style is the techniques used by the writer and that are recurrent. It is the irregularities he applied for his writing. For instance if the writer uses a lot of long sentences all along his work, we say that it's a criterion of his style. To sum up, Style for me is:
- An existence = a special way ( irregularity) applied on language violently and repeatedly in a given work.
- An essence= the origin, and cause of having a special existence
In addition to those two aspects, I think we have another essence given by the reader; i.e it's the reflection of the reader's essence on the text.
I hope I was clear, and it's just a point of view.
