Rebecca

Who Slammed Doors For Fun And Perished Miserably

A trick that everyone abhors

In little girls is slamming doors.

A wealthy banker's little daughter

Who lived in Palace Green, Bayswater

(By name Rebecca Offendort),

Was given to this furious sport.

She would deliberately go

And slam the door like billy-o!

To make her uncle Jacob start.

She was not really bad at heart,

But only rather rude and wild;

She was an aggravating child...

It happened that a marble bust

Of Abraham was standing just

Above the door this little lamb

Had carefully prepared to slam,

And down it came! It knocked her flat!

It laid her out! She looked like that.

Her funeral sermon (which was long

And followed by a sacred song)

Mentioned her virtues, it is true,

But dwelt upon her vices too,

And showed the deadful end of one

Who goes and slams the door for fun.

The children who were brought to hear

The awful tale from far and near

Were much impressed, and inly swore

They never more would slam the door,

-- As often they had done before.

enjoy your poem

Poem of the day Empty Poem of the day

Post by Vertrauen Wed Jun 10, 2009 2:03 am

this is one of my favorite poems" road less travled" by "frost" Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I coud
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

"donne" also is one of my favorite poet i like his " deat be not proud" "sonne rising" and this wonderful one Forbidding Mourning AS virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say,
"Now his breath goes," and some say, "No."

So let us melt, and make no noise, 5
No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move ;
'Twere profanation of our joys
To tell the laity our love.

Moving of th' earth brings harms and fears ;
Men reckon what it did, and meant ; 10
But trepidation of the spheres,
Though greater far, is innocent.

Dull sublunary lovers' love
—Whose soul is sense—cannot admit
Of absence, 'cause it doth remove 15
The thing which elemented it.

But we by a love so much refined,
That ourselves know not what it is,
Inter-assurèd of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips and hands to miss. 20

Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to aery thinness beat.

If they be two, they are two so 25
As stiff twin compasses are two ;
Thy soul, the fix'd foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if th' other do.

And though it in the centre sit,
Yet, when the other far doth roam, 30
It leans, and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.

PS donne wrote this wonderful poem h for his wife when he went to france and he left his wife waiting for their baby.and when the time come for her to have it
he had a vision that his baby is dead and soon after he had a message cconfirming his feeling

A sonnet you must like..

"Amorett"

One day I wrote her name upon the strand
But came the waves and washed it away
Again I wrote it with a second hand
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey
Vain man, said she, that dost in vain assay
A mortal thing so to immortalize
For I myself shall like to this decay
And eke my name be wiped out likewise
Not so,quoth I,let baser things devise
To die in dust, but you shall live by fame
My verse your virtues rare shall eternize
And in the heavens write your glorious name
Where whene as death shall all the world subdue
Our love shall live, and later life renew

" the flea" by donne MARK but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is ;
It suck'd me first, and now sucks thee,
And in this flea our two bloods mingled be.
Thou know'st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead ;
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper'd swells with one blood made of two ;
And this, alas ! is more than we would do.

O stay, three lives in one flea spare,
Where we almost, yea, more than married are.
This flea is you and I, and this
Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is.
Though parents grudge, and you, we're met,
And cloister'd in these living walls of jet.
Though use make you apt to kill me,
Let not to that self-murder added be,
And sacrilege, three sins in killing three.

Cruel and sudden, hast thou since
Purpled thy nail in blood of innocence?
Wherein could this flea guilty be,
Except in that drop which it suck'd from thee?
Yet thou triumph'st, and say'st that thou
Find'st not thyself nor me the weaker now.
'Tis true ; then learn how false fears be ;
Just so much honour, when thou yield'st to me,
Will waste, as this flea's death took life from thee.

In a solitude of the sea
Deep from human vanity
And the pride of life that planned her, stilly coushes she
Steel chambers,late the pyres
Of her salamandrine fires
Cold current thrid, and turn to rhythmic tidal lyres
Over the mirrors meant
To glass the opulent
The sea_warm crawls_grotesque,slimed,dumb,indifferent

Love Not

Love not, love not! ye hapless sons of clay!
Hope’s gayest wreaths are made of earthly flowers—
Things that are made to fade and fall away
Ere they have blossom’d for a few short hours.
Love not!

Love not! the thing ye love may change:
The rosy lip may cease to smile on you,
The kindly-beaming eye grow cold and strange,
The heart still warmly beat, yet not be true.
Love not!

Love not! the thing you love may die,
May perish from the gay and gladsome earth;
The silent stars, the blue and smiling sky,
Beam o’er its grave, as once upon its birth.
Love not!

Love not! oh warning vainly said
In present hours as in the years gone by;
Love flings a halo round the dear ones’ head,
Faultless, immortal, till they change or die,
Love not!

But there's a tree of many, one
A single field which I have looked upon
Both of them speak of something that is gone.
The pansy at my feet
Doth the same tale repeat
Whither is fled the visionary gleam?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?
Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting
The soul that rises with us, our life's star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting
And cometh from afar
Not in entire forgetfulness
And not in utter nakedness
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
Shades of the prison-house begin to close
Upon the growing boy,
But he beholds the light, and whence it flows,
He sees it in his joy
The youth, who daily farther from the east
Must travel, still is Nature's priest
And by the vision splendid
Is on his way attended
At length the man perceives it die away
And fade into the light of common day.

Post by bart_simpson Sun Aug 23, 2009 12:04 am

only eyes will cry, not a single soul will weep
i feel this will happen, when for ever i'll sleep
i'm torn inside, inside only i cry
knowing it makes no difference whether i live or die
now i only breathe, i died long back
and people now think its emotions i lack
no-one to share my feelings, my soul always wept
the sorrows passed away, but the pain is still kept
the whole wide world alone i roam
and live in a lonely room, in a lonely home
when spring kisses the earth and gives it a new song to dance
it's my heart afraid of breaking that won't take a chance
then sunrays greet and turn everything to gold
the snow thaws away but my heart remains cold
when earth gets a new life from the gentle autumn rain
there is nothing to lok forward to, it was all in vain
then winter comes and another year will end
and again i wonder whether my life will mend
will there ever be someone, someone by my side?
but now its too late because long back i died

You are never alone

Sometimes, when the world's not on your side
You don't know where to run to
You don't know where to hide.
You gaze, at the stars in the sky
At the mountains so high
Through the tears in your eyes.
Looking for a reason,
to replace what is gone.
Just remember, remember
That you are never alone.
You are never alone (you are never alone)
Just reach into your heart
And Allah is always there.
You are never alone (you are never alone)
Through sorrow and through grief
Through happiness and peace
You are never alone.
So now as you long for your past
Prepare for your future But knowing nothings going to last
You see this life is but a road
A straight and narrow path To our final abode
So travel well O Muslim
And Paradise will be your home
And always remember
That you are never alone.
You are never alone (you are never alone)
Just reach into your heart
And Allah is always there.
You are never alone (Allah is there)
Through sorrow and through grief
Through happiness and peace
You are never alone.
You are never alone (you are never never alone)
Just reach into your heart
And Allah is always there.
You are never alone (you are never alone)
Through sorrow and through grief
Through happiness and peace You are never alone.

It lies not in our power to love, or hate
For will in us is over-ruled by fate
When two are stripped, long ere the course begin
We wish that one should lose, the other win
And one especially do we affect
Of two gold ingots, like in each respect
The reason no man knows; let it suffice
What we behold is censured by our eyes
Where both deliberate, the love is slight;
Who ever loved that loved not at first sight?

What is Success ?
success is not merely becoming wealthy .
success is not only working for remaining healthy .
success is not going after fame and name .
success is not living life for such mind game .
success is not just taking career to the top .
success is not staying in bungalow at the hill top .
success is working hard for your dreams you believe .
success is perseverance and efforts till you achieve your deal .
success is having considration for every one .
success is strong a desire and to live to help each one .
success is to follow the religion of humanity .
success is to follow the principle ;"live and let others live" .
success is to accept others as diversity of nature;beautiful & alive.
success is working for happiness of the world ,a dedication .
success is to love every one unconditionally without any expectation.

Post by black_white Sat Dec 12, 2009 1:05 pm

A fool I was to sleep at noon,
And wake when night is chilly
Beneath the comfortless cold moon;
A fool to pluck my rose too soon,
A fool to snap my lily.

My garden-plot I have not kept;
Faded and all-forsaken,
I weep as I have never wept:
Oh it was summer when I slept,
It's winter now I waken.

Talk what you please of future spring
And sun-warm'd sweet to-morrow:—
Stripp'd bare of hope and everything,
No more to laugh, no more to sing,
I sit alone with sorrow
A Daughter of Eve

Poem of the day Empty You are My Man.......

Post by mimi cici Fri Mar 26, 2010 4:31 pm

YOU ARE MY MAN, MY MIGHTY KING,
AND I AM THE JEWEL IN YOUR CROWN,
YOU ARE THE SUN SO HOT AND BRIGHT,
I AM YOUR LIGHT-RAYS SHINING DOWN,

YOU ARE THE SKY SO VAST AND BLUE,
AND I AM THE WHITE CLOUDS IN YOUR CHEST,
I AM A RIVER CLEAN AND PURE,
WHO IN YOUR OCEAN FINDS HER REST,

YOU ARE THE MOUNTAIN HUGE AND HIGH,

I AM THE VALLEY GREEN AND WIDE,
YOU ARE THE BODY FIRM AND STRONG,
AND I AM A RIB BONE ON YOUR SIDE,

YOU ARE AN EAGLE FLYING HIGH,
I AM YOUR FEATHERS LIGHT AND BROWN,
YOU ARE MY MAN, MY KING OF KINGS,
AND I AM THE JEWEL IN YOUR CROWN.

Poem of the day Empty Snow !!

Post by Nounette Wed Mar 31, 2010 4:46 pm

Poem of the day 25516210
Snowflakes spill from heaven's hand
Lovely and chaste like smooth white sand.
A veil of wonder laced in light
Falling Gently on a winters night.
Graceful beauty raining down
Giving magic to the lifeless ground.
Each snowflake like a falling star
Smiling beauty that'[b]s spun afar.
Till earth is dressed in a robe of white
Unspoken poem the hush of night.
Snowflakes are our friends
They descend when winter comes
Making white blankets

Sonnet 98
by William Shakespeare

From you have I been absent in the spring
when proud-pied April, dress'd in all his trim,
Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,
That heavy Saturn laugh'd and leap'd with him.
Yet nor the lays of birds, nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odour and in hue,
Could make me any summer's story tell,
Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew:
Nor did I wonder at the lily's white,
Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose;
They were but sweet, but figures of delight,
Drawn after you, you pattern of all those.
Yet seem'd it winter still, and you away,
As with your shadow I with these did play.

Poem of the day Empty The Trees in the Garden Rained Flowers

Post by chinda Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:03 pm

I just liked this poem

The Trees in the Gerden Rained Flowers
For Stephene Crane

The trees in the garden rained flowers.
Children ran there joyously.
They gathered the flowers
Each to himself.
Now there were some
Who gathered great heaps
Having opportunity and skill
Until, behold, only chance blossoms
Remained for the feeble.
Then a little spindling tutor
Ran importantly to the father ,crying:
"Pray, come hither!
See this injust thing in your garden!"
But when the father had surveyed,
He admonished the tutor:
"Not so, small sage!
This thing is just.
For, look you,
Are not they who possess the flowers
Stronger, bolder, shrewder
Than they who have none?
Why should the strong
The beautiful strong
Why should they not have the flowers?"
Upon reflection, the ttutor bowed to the ground,
"My lord," he said,
"The stars are displaced
By this towering wisdom."

Poem of the day Empty 'if' ...

Post by paloma-blanca Sat May 01, 2010 4:19 pm

Hi mates please read this poem:
'if' by rudyard kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

The Sorrows Of the Seas

Look out at the sea,
You feel it,
But it is not the sea you feel is it,
It is but your soul,
Traped in the sarrows of the seas,
It never is but a sea,
Walk along the beach,
Cry and pray to the waves,
All you can see is but the sarrows of the sea,
Alone I sit,
Alone I cry,
Alone is but the sea,
Alone my soul alone my shadow,
It is the sorrows of the sea,
Cry to your self,
Cry to the sorrows of the sea,
I am alone,
I am alone and only I and Me know,
And the sorrows of the sea,
I am but the sorrows of the sea,

Poem of the day Empty A place like this

Post by chinda Thu May 13, 2010 12:45 am

I need an island in the sea,
Away from you away from me,
Beyond the waves beyond the wind,
Beyond the world that we live in,
Under skies of shining stars,
Away from lights and noisy cars,
Above the egos and the stress,
Beyond the world we made a mess.
A place for me a place for you,
An earth that's green a sky that's blue,
A place for you a place for me,
An open sky and light blue sea,
With dreams as solid as the ground,
A place like this I think I've found.
A happy thought no one can take it,
A place like this is where we make it.
I need a mountain in the sky,
Just beneath where angels fly,
Where snowflakes falling on the ground,
Is the most disruptive sound,
Above the waves above the wind,
Above the world that we live in,
Above my life above the stress,
Where I can lay it all to rest,
Under skies of falling snow,
Just above the world below,
Just above the trees and birds,
A place I can't describe in words.
An empty place that's so appealing,
How'd I get this stupid feeling?
Bad ideas come and go,
But none as potent as the snow,
I need no island in the sea,
Just the things that make me me.
I need no mountain in the sky,
Just to laugh try not to cry,
Forget these far off fantasies,
And manifest as realities,
Reach out and grab it in good time,
Seize the moment make it mine,
Catch the moment make it last.
Just be grateful when it's past.
Sensations as real as the wind,
Try not to be sad when it ends.
A happy thought no one can take it,
A time like this is when we make it.
I need an island in the sea,
And all of that which makes me me.Milo Shumpert'appel

I am by Sheron Brown

I am a flower and I have prickles
I wonder if I am strong
I hear the wind
I see the rain
I want to let go of all my pain
I am a flower and I have prickles

I pretend to be dangerous
I feel the wet soil
I touch the earths core
I worry if I 'll wither
I cry and release
All of my agony and pain
I am a flower and I have prickles

I try and understand the hurt
I say I'm nothing but dirt
I dream yto blossom and sprout
I try not to believe in doubt
I hope to chane and get rid of all my pain
I have planted my roots, for I will always remain
I am a flower and I have prickles.

Poem of the day Empty Moon, We Look to You.

Post by chinda Mon May 17, 2010 12:12 am

Moon, We Look to You.

Moon, you have a shade of blue tonight -
Is it something that you saw or heard?
Only yesterday, your tone was proud and bright:
Yellow silver, full, and so assured.

Moon, despite the clarity of sky,
Metaphors of cloud that fluff with grey
Drift across your rounded face to spy;
Feeding back, there's awfully much to say.

Moon, you have a role to play up there,
We below must bear the earthly pain.
Duty bound, we shoulder sorrows fair -
You are free from our grotesque disdain.

Moon, we depend on you to shine
When the sun retires down below.
Add to that your grandest role divine:
Tidal Lord, to keep the seas in tow!

Moon, I hope you take to heart our plea -
Needless is the reason for your blue.
Beaming, you should give the night its glee:
We're despairing - so we look to you.

Poem of the day Empty Re: Poem of the day

Post by chinda Thu May 20, 2010 12:52 am

Night
The sun descending in the west,
The evening star does shine;
The birds are silent in their nest,
And I must seek for mine.
The moon, like a flower
In heaven's high bower,
With silent delight,
Sits and smiles on the night.

Farewell, green fields and happy grove,
Where flocks have ta'en delight.
Where lambs have nibbled, silent move
The feet of angels bright;
Unseen they pour blessing,
And joy without ceasing,
On each bud and blossom,
And each sleeping bosom.

They look in every thoughtless nest
Where birds are covered warm;
They visit caves of every beast,
To keep them all from harm:
If they see any weeping
That should have been sleeping,
They pour sleep on their head,
And sit down by their bed.

When wolves and tigers howl for prey,
They pitying stand and weep;
Seeking to drive their thirst away,
And keep them from the sheep.
But, if they rush dreadful,
The angels, most heedful,
Receive each mild spirit,
New worlds to inherit.

And there the lion's ruddy eyes
Shall flow with tears of gold:
And pitying the tender cries,
And walking round the fold:
Saying: "Wrath by His meekness,
And, by His health, sickness,
Are driven away
From our immortal day.

"And now beside thee, bleating lamb,
I can lie down and sleep,
Or think on Him who bore thy name,
Graze after thee, and weep.
For, washed in life's river,
My bright mane for ever
Shall shine like the gold,
As I guard o'er the fold."William Blake

Poem of the day Empty I love you

Post by Londonhbb Sat May 22, 2010 12:54 am

Love is A Lonely Place Without You

I know I'm not alone
I should not be afraid
Because I hear your voice
And I know you're there beside me
And so I give my heart
I live to love again
But I can't let go of the way I feel about you

Love is a lonely place without you , I miss you
And you’re almost here and I'm almost touching you
Love is a place I have to hide away
I will never love this way again
If love was ever true
I know it was with you

Because you touched my soul
And you will stay with me forever
No no sad goodbyes
There are no reasons why
But I'm holding on
I believe in love eternal
Though I'm moving on
I'm still holding on
