Ever seen a newbie writing this in a post or in a message? To be honest, it does look funny and maybe many you were laughing about it. Words that sound the same - but have different spelling and meaning PWzmi

But let's face it, it is difficult for beginners to understand the difference of all those words that sound the same (=homophones) - and there are hundreds of them like to/too, our/hour, whole/hole and so on. But maybe even those who laugh about such user posts had the same problem when THEY started learning English...

Show us YOUR words you had (or still have?) problems with, together with a short description of the different meanings, so that others can learn how to use them correctly and avoid similar mistakes in future, enjoy collecting!

BUY - BYE

1) to buy = to get something for money / to pay for something

I went to the shop to buy some milk.
They will not buy this car for 26.000 $, I am sure!

2.) bye or bye bye
used when leaving from a chat or ending a conversation with a person

Sorry John, I must go now - (good) bye and take care
