Re: Trigger your imagination...
A Little Boy
He opened his eyes suddenly to see a transparent shape staring at him. He couldn't name it, it looked like him, but sucked out of its 'natural' colour. "It looks like the ghost who haunts the Old Lady's house at night", he thought. A spirit, turned white they said from the unbearable suffering it received in the tomb. "Still looking at me, should I run away? It's better scream and ask for help, but I'm alone, they went to harvest the crops". He didn't stir, children like him were told to remain quiet when they see ghosts. Stories about ghosts and witches always fascinated little boys. They gathered during the summer nights to listen earnestly. They listened carefully to the details for they will re-tell the story the next day to their friends.
"Go away, don't hurt me please" said the little boy. Sweat covered his forehead. Two other transparent shapes joined the ghost; they dragged the boy out of the small shelter…To carry him to the unknown, to a strange land, where alien people live… all white as the cotton his grandmother spun.
The boy's heart pounded fiercely, he glanced and saw the chief standing next to his big shelter grinning, happiness apparent in his eyes, a bottle of that sweet juice people are talking about in his hand. "I give up everything to taste it'" a friend told the poor boy once. Delicious, you can not resist its taste and you do the impossible to get it, even by selling your own flesh!
"Leave me alone", the boy screamed and tried to free himself. His attempt failed.
The ghost decided to take the boy and nothing could stop him. He is powerful, he is the Whiteman!
The Whiteman or the civilized man, the philosopher, the scholar whose sophisticated mind enables him to understand sciences. His impressive culture, his great knowledge granted him the highest position among mankind. The "coloured men" however, the one who is considered to be less than fully human is created for a sole purpose, servitude…permanent servitude and dependency.
"Those ' barbarous breeds of men' must be civilized, must be converted to our religion, Christianity lest they discard their strange exotic rituals" wrote the' ghost' in the diary he carried with him during his visit to the boy's village and during other expeditions.
A torch of enlightenment was carried next to the holy bible, but what about the sword? No, it wasn't mentioned that the white master carried his sword with him to the 'virgin' continent. He brought just the 'cure' to the inferior race, the demonic backward men.
The generosity of the Whitman is the source of his actions; his love for the 'Other' – not only for the 'self'-is what justifies his deeds. The "coloured men" can not live without their white master; he gives them protection, from their cannibalistic instincts?! From the so-supposed barbarity?!! One may ask.
The boy, now adult could no longer remember how he was brought to the Whiteman land. The traumatic shock he received as a little boy disrupted his peaceful mind and the unpleasant incident was repressed deeply in the unconscious. From time to time while asleep, he dreamt of his native village, of the wide fields where his father raised crops. He longed to return there, just to listen to his grandmother's famous stories, but alas he was not free. He toiled daily!!!
