Research Methodology - Course Outline for Second Year LMD

Learning objectives

By the end of the course, you should be able to

1. Identify and a formulate researchable topic or question;
2. Write research proposals;
3. Assess the literature and identify relevant resources for the research;
4. Read and analyse the sources to identify relevant materials;
5. Extract / take notes (summarise / paraphrase) useful data from the sources;
6. Synthesise relevant data from different sources;
7. Acknowledge used sources accurately;
8. Present research reports orally;
9. Work collaboratively within a group to do assigned tasks;


Pre-Requisite skills

In order to benefit from and succeed in this course, you need some key skills. The reading and writing modules can contribute to develop your ability especially to:

1. Read academic texts effectively; i.e., understand within reasonable time;
2. Write academic essays;
3. Summarize extensive pieces of academic writings;
4. Paraphrase extensive pieces of academic writings.
5. Synthesise information from different sources;
