I guess this is your first experience writing a dissertation. 2 challenges may be too much. What about practising writing a dissertation this year. Then later, you can look for novelty. What do you think?

I already experienced this hard moment before ...it's really bad but dont worry friend cuz by choosing your field of intrest , you have done a great step in the right way . now my peace of advice to u is to choose a work wich u are already familiar with . i mean it's better to work on something u have already read ,than on something totally new,& try to specify your topic( the American dream, the great depression, the west , the victorian literature..ect)...then check the amount of information & sources available about the chosen topic.

if i were u , i would have chosen Steinbeck's legendary "The grapes of wrath"..it's really intresting. at the end my dear friend ..be careful of showing your incertanity (being confused) to your supervisor it will badly effect your work with him....this is from my own experience.
i wish u the best of luck

Start with moderate expectations to survive. Step by step, you can raise those expectations as you progress and feel self-confident. There is no perfect topic, perfect research or dissertation. Aim for something you are certain you can do within time limits. You CAN do it! Smile
