James 1*1603 - 1625 *Great-great-grandson of Henry 7
King of England from 1603 and Scotland (as James 6) from 1567. When James became King of England, he was already a king - King James 6 of Scotland. He was the first monarch to rule both countries and the first to call himself 'King of Great Britain'. However it was not until 1707 that an act of Parliament formally brought the two countries together. after this became
James was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots. He had been King of Scotland for 29 years when he acceded to the English throne.
and in 1605 the Gunpowder Plot was hatched: Guy Fawkes and his friends, Catholics, tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament, but were captured before they could do so.
Charles I 1625 - 1649
Charles was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, and became heir to the throne on the death of his elder brother Henry in 1612.and King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1625,Fought against the Parliament leading to civil war.
was executed as a result on 30 January 1649. England became a Republic for eleven years from 1649 - 1660.At first England was ruled by Parliament, but in 1653, Oliver Cromwell, commander of the army, became Lord Protector of England. He held his post until his death in 1658 Cromwell did not want to be king and refused the crown when it was offered to him.and the Commonwealth - declared 19 May 1649.Oliver Cromwell (1653-58)
had Richard Cromwell (1658-59).
Charles 2 "1660 - 1685
He was crowned King of Scotland in 1651. When Richard Cromwell lost the confidence of Parliament and abdicated, Charles returned to London in time for his thirtieth birthday and to rule Great Britain (Scotland, England and Wales). and Charles saw London recover from the Plague (1665) and Great Fire (1666). Many new buildings were built at this time. St. Paul's Cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren and also many churches still to be seen today.after this was became James 2 1685 - 1688
King of England and Scotland (as James 7) from 1685. and James was 15 when his father was executed. He escaped to France in 1648, disguised as a girl. As his brother, Charles 2, had no children James succeeded him.and Whilst king, James tried to force people to follow his Roman Catholic faith. He was very unpopular because of his persecution of the Protestants, and he was hated by the people. and He was forced to give up the crown in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. and the Parliament asked William of Orange, who was married to James' daughter Mary, to take the throne. She was a Protestant.and after him he was becameWilliam 31688 - 1702 and Queen Mary 2 1688 - 1694
Mary, daughter of James 2 and her Dutch husband were invited to be King and Queen following James abdication.and the King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1688, the son of William 2 of Orange and Mary, daughter of Charles 1. He was offered the English crown by the parliamentary opposition to James 2. He invaded England in 1688 and in 1689 became joint sovereign with his wife, Mary 2. after here . Last Stuart sovereign was Queen Anne 1702 - 1714. and Her nickname was Brandy Nan because of her alleged taste for fine French brandy. She was also known as Mrs Bull and Mrs Morely.and All of her 18 children died.and in 1707 Act of Union between Scotland and England formed Great Britain.and in1710 - St Paul's Cathderal, London, completed by Sir Christopher Wren .and in1711 - First race meeting held at Ascot

King George 1 1714 - 1727
Prince George Louis was declared "George by the Grace of God and king of Great Britain , France and Ireland" on 1 August 1714 . At the age of 54 , he set the record as the oldet monarch on accession in British history . and he could hardly speak English and spent most of his time in his beloved Hanover , in Germany . He made little effort to learn the language and customs of the country and communicated with his ministers in French .
King George 2 1727 - 1760
King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1727 , George preferred Germany to England , but learned to speak English , unlike his father . and in he gave Sir Rober Walpole a gift of 10 Downing Street, now the permanent London residence of the British prime minister. and in1739 - Dick Turpin, highwayman , hanged at York
King George 3 1760 - 1820
King of Great Britain and Ireland . he wasthe first Hanoverian monarch to be born in England. He was born on 4 June 1738 in London and was the son of Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales , and grandson of George 2. He was the first monarch since Queen Anne to put British interests well before those of Hanover . he ruled for 50 years and fathered 15 children. He suffered from recurrent fits of madness and after 1810, his son acted as regent.
King George 4 1820 - 1830
he became prince regent in 1811 , while his father was very ill, and he was a king in 1820. and he Builted Brighton Pavilion.and He died on 26 June 1830. His only child, Princess Charlotte had died in childbirth in 1817, so the crown passed to George's brother who became William 4
King William 4 1830 - 1837
he was king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1830.and He became known as the "Sailor King" after joining the navy from just 13 years old. andHis reign saw the passing of the Reform Act of 1832.and during his reign England abolished slavery in the colonies in 1833.and he died on 20 June 1837, without surviving children. His niece Victoria succeeded him.and in 1834 - Fire destroys the Palace of Westminster.and in the same year in1834 - Poor Law Act is passed , creating workhouses for the poor. and after this in1836 - Births, marriages and deaths must be registered by law Queen Victoria 1837 - 1901
she was the daughter of Edward, duke of Kent (4 son of George 3 ) and a niece of George 4 and William 4 . and She married Albert of Saxe - Coburg Gotha. Ruled during the industrial revolution. The British Empire became powerful, rich and confident . When Victoria died in 1901 , after the longest reign in English history, the British Empire and British world power had reached their highest point . She had 9 children , 40 grand-children and 37 great grandchildren, scattered all over Europe . that's all about the house of hanovare
