Bravery, thy name is rooster

Post by w_ch on Sat Apr 24, 2010 9:59 pm

When it crows, you’d think it’s an archaic bell,

Whose sound is growing more, and never less.

A perfectly-shaped rooster with a white feathery-shell;

And a red helmet and other things, I must confess,

That my neighbours despised and used to repel

Because of its ceremonial habits, there was a mess;

The cock was so viciously beaten that it almost fell.

Yet, it stood still, and bravery it managed to express.

Neighbours, finally, settled on putting it in a cell.

What a contemptible feeling I now repress

For not having enjoyed the fresh morning smell.

There it was, still standing and was anything but powerless,

As if it was telling them :” you can go to hell…”

well der brother and friend w_ch....
here we are with a new poem....
I remember very well the first time i read these words...

well....let's start as usual by the title....do u think that there is a link between the title and what u've already written after...i mean ...why don't u choose something about the cockالديك ??that u talk about him in second part...is there any reason...or it is like this???
but believe me...it's an attractive title...i do like it ....

now ....let's move to the form....
it is A B A B ??? C?.... i'm not good in these things ...
but i find the tone or the rythem so easy and simple...
at least we find something easy from u...i mean it is so hard 2 understand u...strong personality..we feel that there is secret behind every word u say...

well....let's move to the context....
i'm sorry if i'm too bad in literature...but ur poems...waw...
I've 2 say many things...
angry is the first thing i find in ur poem...
the cock....symbol of what???
the organization of ur ideas...

and look at the last part....why there is carelessness...u don't care or who doesn't care...when u say;"..u can go to hell..."???

well my brother w_ch....many question behind ur poem..
that's why i find it special...amazing...

i hope u make it easy 4 us...i mean if u please...would u explain 4 us some ideas???

I appreciate u as a poet....i hope 2 read more from u...
thanx alot ...
Ciao

Hello,

Thank you dearly for your remarks Toufikzad. As I told you once, the peom is just as you understood it in the first place. Everyone has his own interpretation, of course relying on some existent grounds. As for the title, you wouldn't understand it till you finish reading the peom (or at least that's what I think). You would probably understand that the brave rooster is symbolized as "an honest man" who's just doing his job. What is so good about cocks' crowing? Don't you think that they crow at a particular time ( At dawn for example, when we are supposed to wake up and pray. or may be go to work or to school afetrwards). However, the neighbours do not look at it this way. Since they are self-centered and do not have anything to do with morals and religion (for they refused the fact that the cock always wakes them up at dawn) They put the rooster to jail. There's an idea here ; those who do their job properly, they are to be persecuted, just like this rooster was. Now the end, it's actually the only obvious thing that characterizes the cock as being so brave. Inspite of being put into prison, it is still insisting of doing its job...That's how we should be...
Thanks agai bro!
