Very important Médi café

Post by Hush on Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:36 pm

I am sorry to bother you again but It's really something so important for those who are interested. Here it is:

From this year, the British Council Algeria is going to be involved in Medi Café, a project bringing together writers (aspiring and/or
established) from the Maghreb and the UK.

We are looking to nominate 3 writers from Algeria. Unfortunately, the deadline for applications is 5 October which doesn't leave much time but we'd like to open out this opportunity to as wide an audience as possible.

It will be of interest to students and teachers of English, as well as to professional writers.

If you would like any more information, please get in touch.

Best wishes

Jancis

CALL FOR PAPERS
Do you write in English? Do you want to find an audience in the wider world? Then Find Out About: Medi-Café: Trans-Maghreb Creative Writing Project What Is Médi-Café? This is an one-year online creative writing programme for students and writers from the Maghreb sponsored by the British Council in partnership with the University of London in Paris. Writers from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria will work with UK-based writers and academics in a unique form of inter-cultural dialogue which will enrich all partners. Most importantly it will provide an opportunity for writers from the Maghreb to bring their work into a wider international forum
How does it work? Medi-Café specialises in four key areas - reportage, fiction, poetry and the performance arts - mentored by
Professor Andrew Hussey, Professor Stephen Regan and Dr Kate Pullinger, each of whom are established writers as well as academics. Participants will be encouraged to specialize in a key area but also participate across discipline boundaries. There will be meetings through the year in the Maghreb, on-line mentoring, peer-to-peer critique and discussion on a dedicated Medi-Café website, as well as the opportunity to have your best work published online. Most exciting of all is the expectation that a new generation of writers from the Maghreb will emerge from this creative and intercultural encounter.

Why does it exist?

The project is inspired by Edward Said's notion of 'imaginary frontiers'; this is a motif developed throughout Said's work as a notion which both destroys and rebuilds the notion of comparative literary aesthetics, finally working towards the possibility of a true 'world literature'. This is a crucial trope in the development in the emerging discipline of inter-cultural studies. The specific aim of this project is therefore to bring together theoretical and practical aspects of this notion, and to investigate therefore what it means to be writing within and beyond cultural boundaries.

How do I get involved?

Visit the Medi-cafe website medi-cafe.britishcouncil.org to find out more about the project, then send an example of your writing (500 words) in any of the key genre areas to samia.mahiddine@britishcouncil.org

Deadline for applications 5 October 2009

And Good luck!

Don't worry I am out again!

I tried to look for more information about this interesting topic, and I found that Algeria is excluded from this project( at least for the time being)

"...Writers from Morocco and Tunisia (extending to Algeria in the future)..." ...(or at least that's what I understood!)
I don't know why Algeria is always excluded from everything in this world????????!
Anyway,I'm not sure if my writing skills could actually qualify to participate in this project, but I'm sorry for those who could have a chance..
best regards.
