Future Teachers?

Post by messi on Tue Aug 03, 2010 12:00 pm

I just want to ask something if you please!
We are all studying English Right? Is there any field we can have a job with this deplomat except teaching?

another question: Why do WE(algerians) hate being teachers if not hating the teachers as human-beings.

I remeber My first day in English department, one teacher asked us what do we want to be in the future, teachers? the whole class was saying " oh nooooooooo! anything but a teacher" ..It was like an insult for them to be a teacher. Personally, I did not understand all this hate feelings for this job..So, do you have anything to say?

Well, about why people have a bad idea about teaching, I think that there are many reasons which make people build that idea about teaching and teachers. Firstly, the teacher lately, with all my respects to all the teachers, becomes ranked at the end of the row. He is not respected as before, or the one who is supposed to be on the first line as all the other jobs are born from the womb of teaching. In the previous years, the teacher had a lofty rank and a high honor. But these late years, things changed, he is not any more respected for the things he is doing, he is not rewarded for the gigantic efforts he is making to light the candle of knowledge in every mind, he is not the one who stirs the mind by his behavior and knowledge, he is not acclaimed by everyone as it is supposed. He,unfortunately, becomes a subject of teasing, some one who is called sometimes old-fashion and backward for nothing just for the values and the principles he still holding and teaching. So, to evade all these things, people prefer any job rather than being teachers.
Secondly, most people see in teaching a very hard job, especially in the primary schools. They see that treating people, or let's say pupils, from different kinds, different mentalities and societies is not easy. They think that a teacher is a slave of his job as he doesn't have a moment to spare for himself; he is either teaching at school or, at his free time, preparing lessons or correcting copies. So the teacher is not free at all, all what he does is just for the sake of his job.
Thirdly, most people think that teaching is not and can't be never a way to richness. They think that a teacher can be never a rich one if he relies just upon his job as a teacher. While the majority of people are seeking for easy and swift ways to be rich, so they put teaching aside for it is not a way to their lucrative purposes. They see in teaching a job that can't suffice their needs or serve them what they wish or live for.

Here a question arises and should be asked. It is said that teaching is the mother of all the jobs; a doctor was taught one day by a teacher, an engineer was taught one day by a teacher, a president was one day a student taught by a teacher. So, if we all say that we don't want to be teachers, who will teach the doctor, the engineer, the pilot, the teacher and the president of the future?!

Most of students hate to be teachers, because of the situation that teachers living. In previous years, government used to build houses, clinics ... etc for teachers before build schools. So teachers were thinking only in what to give to students, not thinking in high prices and problems of their families.
I think, government should care of teachers and their problems, then we judge them about the result.

Simplely, teachers are not treated as they should be, so none looks backward!

Both my mother and my father are teachers. My father tought me English himself. I have never saw people treat him in a bad way, but the opposite. He is always welcomed everywhere he goes. I have never saw him complaining about his work or about students or something like that.
I hope one day I can be like my father .....a TEACHER!

This profession used to be hated by all people in the Algerian society if not made laugh at anyone with qualities such as poverty and wisdom...isn't it?

Now , who can assure me that s/he is capable of getting this job in the current situation that Algeria is experiencing? You can visit any administration (whether be it at primary, middle, secondary or higher education ) and see what fresh graduate are seeking...Any job... Yes, any job .

Can "any job" be compared to "teaching" ? I think not. The difference relies in many aspects. I let it to you to guess
